Reed Flute Scenic Area is situated by the Taohua River in Xiufeng District, Guilin, about 5 kilometres from the city centre. It forms a core part of the Li River Scenic Spot and is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The core attraction, Reed Flute Cave, took shape millions of years ago. It is a karst cave evolved from an ancient underground lake. Stretching 240 metres in total length with a 500-metre sightseeing route, the cave boasts spacious and grand interiors. Over thousands of years, underground water has dissolved limestone, creating a diverse array of stalactite formations. Illuminated by colourful lights, the cave resembles an underground palace. Its famous sights include Lion Ridge at Dawn, Red Silk Curtain, Coiled Dragon Pagoda, Primeval Forest and Crystal Palace.

As early as the Tang Dynasty, travellers visited the cave. Ink inscriptions dating back to 792 AD left by visitors of successive dynasties remain on the cave walls, constituting precious cultural relics. Officially opened to the public in 1962, the cave has hosted more than 300 foreign dignitaries, earning it the moniker "State Guest Cave". The Crystal Palace inside the cave served as the shooting location for the East China Sea Dragon Palace in the classic 1986 TV series Journey to the West.

The scenic area features more than just the limestone cave. Outside the cave, Fanglian Pond is embraced by clear waters, blending mountains, rivers and pastoral scenery. The marvellous cave landscapes and outdoor natural views complement each other perfectly.
