Sections of the Ming Great Wall near Beijing snake along mountain ridges, forming a defensive network of ramparts, watchtowers and beacon towers. Standing on the wall overlooking rolling mountains, you can appreciate extraordinary ancient engineering. It is the most iconic symbol of Chinese civilization.
